About us

About IWM Duxford
Discover Britain's best-preserved Second World War airfield, where iconic aircraft fill every hangar alongside exhibitions showcasing historic artefacts and hundreds of personal accounts from ordinary people with extraordinary experiences. IWM Duxford’s captivating history traces back to the First World War, shedding light on the influence of aviation in warfare during some of the most critical moments in the 20th century.

The museum
The museum hosts the American Air Museum, which boasts the largest collection of military aircraft displayed publicly outside the United States. Within this space, visitors can witness the famous B-17 bomber and the SR-71, the fastest and highest-flying manned aircraft ever constructed. In the 1940 Operations Room, guests are transported back to when this building was the nerve centre of Duxford’s Battle of Britain campaign. Within the AirSpace exhibition, onlookers can board the Concorde 101, designed to fly at over twice the speed of sound, and admire the jet-powered Avro Vulcan, which served as Britain’s airborne nuclear deterrent during the Cold War.
